What I love about water – ocean, lake, river, waterfall – is how it is always changing. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même. Change is inevitable. The challenge is how to capture the depth, the movement. In my abstract, acrylic paintings, water sometimes looks like water, but it also sometimes looks like space or sky. Honestly, it’s not something I always control. Some paintings just happen.

Africa
Africa was just spectacular and, somehow, not what I expected (mostly dry dusty landscape). Photo safaris of three national parks with all the animals (even penguins) you can imagine (up close and personal), major cosmopolitan cities, beautiful rivers and a huge man-made lake, even a winery (with wonderful wine), a German food court with a chef from Bavaria, exotic foliage (umbrella thorn trees, for starters), the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (impressive), everywhere beautifully colorful sunsets, and, of course, Victoria Falls living up to its name: The Smoke that Thunders. It was an absolutely remarkable experience, one I will cherish forever.
