What I love about water – ocean, lake, river, waterfall – is how it is always changing. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même. Change is inevitable. The challenge is how to capture the depth, the movement. In my abstract, acrylic paintings, water sometimes looks like water, but it also sometimes looks like space or sky. Honestly, it’s not something I always control. Some paintings just happen.

Italy / Sicily / Tuscany
The crossroads of the Mediterranean, Sicily was conquered in turn by the Greeks, Romans, Tunisians, Normans ... you name it, they came, and left their footprints in the food, the architecture, the wine. And in 2021, we loved it all. Beautiful scenery (beaches, sunsets, Mt. Etna), great food and wine, friendly people ... what's not to love? In fact, we loved it so much we returned in 2022, this time to Tuscany and Umbria. The rolling hillsides, beautiful skies, tall cypress trees, the surprising Mediterranean pines ... And so, as is my wont, each time I returned to New York City, organized my photos, and started to paint.
