What I love about water – ocean, lake, river, waterfall – is how it is always changing. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même. Change is inevitable. The challenge is how to capture the depth, the movement. In my abstract, acrylic paintings, water sometimes looks like water, but it also sometimes looks like space or sky. Honestly, it’s not something I always control. Some paintings just happen.

My trips to India and before that, to Vietnam and Cambodia, were inspiring in very different ways. In India, it was the people and their colors that fascinated (although the Bengal tiger we saw up close and personal in Ranthambore was pretty exciting and, of course, the Taj Mahal was just spectacular). In Vietnam and Cambodia, it was the beautiful Vietnamese landscapes and the Angkor temple complex. In Japan, it was the cleanliness, the order, the extreme politeness, the taxi drivers with white gloves and, of course, the wonderfully delicious food. China was impressive with its can-do philosophy and amazing history.
