What I love about water – ocean, lake, river, waterfall – is how it is always changing. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même. Change is inevitable. The challenge is how to capture the depth, the movement. In my abstract, acrylic paintings, water sometimes looks like water, but it also sometimes looks like space or sky. Honestly, it’s not something I always control. Some paintings just happen.

Starting to Clear

DESCRIPTION:

I pictured myself on a mountain top right after a storm, how vague and misty everything would be, with just a hint of the clearing to come. There is something about not seeing clearly, about not knowing what you are looking at, that fascinates me. How do you make sense of what is amorphous? Sometimes the view from my 16th floor window overlooking the Hudson River and the Palisades (when I can see them) is like being on a mountain top.
