Monster in the Gulf

Monster in the Gulf

DESCRIPTION:

The pictures and news coverage of the Deepwater Horizon burning in the Gulf and the resulting damage from the leaking oil absolutely enraged me.  How could our government agencies charged with protecting the environment have allowed this to happen?  What were they doing when they should have been demanding compliance with existing environmental regulations? My reaction to the TV images was similar to watching the twin towers fall on 9/11 from my office window.  Pure rage.  But we did this to ourselves: our own government allowed hugely profitable companies to take shortcuts and save money at the expense of the earth we (and they) should be protecting.  Shouldn’t we have learned from the Exxon Valdez?!? This painting doesn’t begin to bleed off the rage.
